The recap of Sheila and my trip to Ft. Worth inthe Diamond Oaks Golf Tournament.....
Thursday night, they had a Keg Party. It was a blast. We met some really neat people. Sheila and I only took our wedges, cause we
thought it was a parking log chip off.
Well…. A 100 yard shot is a little more than my sand wedge will handle,
so both Sheila and I borrowed clubs from some of the ladies there. We didn’t win that, but at least we
competed. The lady that won landed it
about 1 foot from the hole. They also
had a putting contest. Four holes…… they
had it fixed so you had to put under twigs, around hoses, etc. Well, I came in with like 11 putts, and
Sheila came in with 8. She was low
putter… so she won the putting money.
Sheila's Putting Contest
I was a little over lucky on the silent auction. I had to write a check for $450 to get out of there. I bought lots of stuff… the big item I bid on for $150, I decided not to take, because they couldn’t provide the box to go with it. I can’t reveal what it was, cause it was a gift for Angie for Xmas. They refunded me $150 in cash. Sheila spent part of the evening reading cookbooks. She found one that was all about recipes from some of the various state wide festivals. We calles it an evening a little on the early side. Headed back to the hotel.
Sheila woke up in the middle of the night and thought I had
become a creeper and was watching her sleep.
Not just watching, but standing over her while she was in bed. Thank gawd she doesn’t carry a gun or pepper
spray. I was in the bathroom when it
happened. She told me about it. When we turned off the lights, I saw what she
thought was me. A little investigation
revealed the fact that the phone was actually off hook, which caused a green
LED to light up. There was a coke bottle
sitting beside the phone. It caused a
shadow to appear on the ceiling, which Sheila thought was shaped like me? If I could have taken a picture of it, you’d
understand her confusion. I mean, I am
built a lot like a coke bottle.
We headed out the next morning, had a great breakfast and
played some not so great golf. At least
the two ladies we were playing with weren’t all that great either. I did manage to make one birdie, and so did
Sheila. We were really frustrated with ourselves. Well, more so Sheila than me. I wasn’t great, but I didn’t have any super,
super blow up holes. Honestly, neither
did Sheila, but we didn’t have hopes of doing much. Well…… we actually came in 2nd low
gross for our flight. We were in the
first flight, and I looked at their handicap list, and the lowest I could find
for their ladies league is an 11.
WTH? Anyway….. the ladies we
played against were 1st low gross.
We were all four happy for winning, but also for actually getting to
play together the next day.
After lunch, we played in the shoot-out. The first hole was not a “normal” hole. We teed off from the #10 teeing area, but
played the #9 green. It was only 100
yards, but it was over power lines and trees and parking areas and cart
paths. It was also alternate shot
format. Sheila has one golf phobia….
Only one….. that’s the first shot. So, I
stepped up, took my 9 arm, and swung like there was no tomorrow. We actually did okay on the hole. A par.
We played every hole like that…. Teeing off from one fairway and playing
a different green. We lasted to the very
end….. well next to the last hole, where we tied for next to the last place,
and we lost the chip off. But, only by an
inch. Oh well, it had started sprinkling
anyway.
We got up early again, packed up and checked out of the
hotel…. Then off for breakfast and more golf.
We didn’t play as well as the first day….. but the girls we were with
played better. Well, so we thought. We did NOT have any birdies. Well, long story short, we finished up proud
that we didn’t finish DAL (Dead Ass Last).
WE had lunch then the awards started.
We won Friday Play Day Money.
What’s that? Well, they play 1st
and 2nd place in net and gross each day, in addition to the
winning. That means that 4 teams in each
flight would win cash! Woohoo….. we knew
we’d finished 1st low net on Friday.
These score card pictures sort of overlap.
When awards were finished…. We’d won 1st place
low net Friday, Saturday, and then finally overall for the two day
tournament. We were in 7th heaven. I can’t remember what we really won, but it
was $150 to $200 each. Just as
well. The lady that bought one gift back
from me found the box, and I ended up buying it back again. Still $450 in the hole. We drove home so elated. We decided we sucked, but evidently the rest
of the ladies sucked more. Wow.
I dropped Sheila off around 3, and came home for a quick
rest. Sheila, Mark, Angie and her family
and Gary and I were meeting for dinner at Picasso’s Italian Restaurant for my
Birthday dinner. Angie and her clan were
only about 10 minutes late, that’s good.
Mark and Sheila were already there when we arrived. I guess it was 7ish. We ate and talked and ate and talked. Great service and food. Then, against my advice, I opened the
presents they’d brought. Angie and her
group bought me 3 cookbooks, and a Doody Game.
A game of Doody consists of two people wearing tied on cloth swimcap
type of hats. They have Velcro strips
sewn on them, and points are stamped on the hat. Then, there are fake turds…. I mean doodie
things that are tossed at you. If they
hit the hat, they will stick, and the thrower is awarded. Sheila was sooo jealous. Sheila and Mark got me two gifts. A book for Gary to read… well not just him… I
need to read it also. It’s title? RV’ing for Dummies. Then, I got a water color paint set. That’s really neat, and I’ll try it before
Joyce comes back. Great fun. Ralph and Margie came in around 8:30, and
they had a bottle of wine. We all
gabbed, and caught up. I mean, we hadn’t
seen Margie for about a week. That lady
stays busy. We took these pictures before Ralph and Marge got there. A few wines later.... I'd failed to take any more pictures.
We called it a night on the early side. I came home and crashed. Got up Sunday and did nothing all day. I did go to the store and cooked a
roast. Angie and her clan came over for
dinner, and my birthday brownie/cake Gary and Morgan made me for my birthday
cake. It’s really just a brownie mix
baked in a round pan, but it was a big hit.
Here is a brief video of our evening.
Yup, they played Doody Head…. Then we played a little Doodie
Boobie. That’s another story for another
time. We all had so much fun. The Doody game sounds like Fab 4 Game.
This video should explain why I don't have other people over when Gary is involved in hosting my birthday.

It has taken several days to get this completed. I wish to hell they'd quit changing the interactions between my PC and Blogger. Now, I can upload in a few minutes, but the prep work involves my PC to Picassa, to You tube via Google+, to Blogge. GASP!!!!! Almost too much for a senior citizen. I have not checked this to see if the events described were posted in the correct sequence or not, no spellcheck either, and no rereads........I no longer care.
