Hello From Super 8 in Haltom City

As I type this, Sheila is watching TV.... The View.  We are in Haltom City for the Diamonds in the Rough Golf Tournament.  Neither of us knows anything about it... other than we spent like $150 each to play in it.  We came over yesterda (Wednesday) to play a practice round.  Sheila shot an 89 and I shot a 91.  Her handicap is a lot lower than mine.  To get around giving strokes, we always play the front 9 heads up, then whoever is ahead gives the other person the number of strokes in the difference of the two scores.  Hence..... I had 3 strokes.  Yippee team Connie. Sheila did win low putts, but I think she just got lucky.  I also won our points game.  We give points for greens and putts in regulation, putts in less than regulation, and fairways hit... oh and birdies.

We came to the hotel afterwards and checked in.  We unloaded the car and brought everything to the room.  Woops.... no bathroom light.  They just moved us to another room, as it was easier to wait for maintenance to change the bulb.  Hmmmm....

We grabbed a couple of beers and headed for the pool.  Nothing like sitting by a pool, listening to heavy traffic, and drinking a beer.  We did check out our surroundings..

The pictures should give you a good idea of our surroundings.  I didn't want to stand on a chair to see over the fence to get pictures of the traffic.  Lots of construction around us.  Also, we are in the corner of a "city section".  We can walk out into our parking lot, never cross a street, and visit 6 other hotel/motels.  Weird, but this is one busy spot.  I personally liked the birds, and Sheila liked the horses eating while the birds circle the land at their feet.

We then walked to a little restaurant near us.  It was Thai and Lao Food.  WTF is that ??????  Anyway, we asked the waitress to make some suggestions, and told her we wanted to share.  Well, it was great.  You can request the amount of hotness (is that a word?) you want in your dish.... from 1-5.  We told her we liked spicey food.... she said that we should stay with a 2 if we wanted to be able to "taste" the ingredients.  We went with that.  Here's what we ordered........

Pad Kra Pao (It is NOT pronounced pad crap-ah-o) - Ours was made with bell peppers bamboo, carrots, onions, baby corn and ours was with pork.  It was not near as spicey as the LARB.

Larb - Ours was made with roasted rice (ground), lemon grass, lime, cilantro, green onion, galangal, and chicken.  This includes the gizzard.... which amazed Sheila.  We are soooo glad we didn't order it anything more than a 2.  Some bites took our breath away.  The surprise for us (other than Sheila and the gizzard) was the galangal... it's a sister of ginger.
All in all, we enjoyed our dinner.  The soup before the meal had something similar to a potato.... but almost the texture of an onion.  I guessed daikon.  Bingo again..... I have never cooked with it, but have seen it in recipes.

We came back to the room and played hand and foot.  I hate to brag.... but

It was sooo boring for me.  I can only sluff off playing before I get bored.  Poor pathetic Sheila.  Well, the truth be known.... I was amazed I could actually beat her once, much less twice.  We went to sleep around 12:30.

Sheila got up and made breakfast.... granola type breakfast bars and coffee.  We've laid around and done nothing all morning... but I do believe we're heading for iHOP.  Gotta run... have a good day.
