The Great American Food Truck Rally

Monday morning post....
Got up yesterday, and accomplished my number one goal... getting the BLOG updated.  After that, it was clear sailing.  All I had to do was get with Joyce, Sheila and Mark and go enjoy some food at the First Annual Great American Food Truck Rally at Reverchon Park in Dallas.  This was going to be a breeze.

Eric and Angie were supposed to go with us and make it an adult only outing, but Angie had to work.  She works for the same company Sheila does, Murad Auctions.  They do BIG charity events.  They provide auction items (African safaris, luxury trips, art work, etc) as well as coordinating events and handling credit card billings, etc..  Angie got a call a couple of weeks ago advising her they wanted her to work the event.  Angie is like an administrator/salesperson for Murad.  Anyway, that meant that Eric wouldn't go.  Morgan had softball practice anyway.  So.... we invited Chloe.

We were supposed to be at the Coles house to pick them up at 12:30.  Of course, we were late.  Angie called and needed me to pick up some "sensitive skin" suntan lotion.  We were only about 15 minutes late.  We used my iphone to get there, and we found a parking place.  We had all brought our lawn chairs.  We arrived at the event one chair short.  UGH for Gary.  He sat on the ground.   We had found Angie as we entered the event, and Angie provided us with one free drink ticket per person.  That doesn't sound like much, but hey, at $6 for one bottle of beer, it helped.  I also snagged a VIP bracelet, which meant that I got to use the VIP restroom.

There was a really good band there.  I cannot remember the name of it, but Sheila will.  They were pretty good.  We sat in the shade and enjoyed some of the music, and LOVED watching all the people.  After a while, we decided we were hungry.  There were really long lines at all of the food trucks, except the ice cream truck.  Sheila decided to try that, but found out the reason there was no line was because they'd run out of ice cream.  Now, the event started at like noon, and we'd arrived at like 1:30.  If they're running out of stuff after 2-3 hours, then they were in for a real problem.  Chloe and I decide we're going after something to eat.  We walked thru what seemed like miles of people in line to buy food, and decided the shortest line was the pizza truck line.  We get in line.

About 30 minutes later, Mark shows up.  He joins us, and we are chatting and waiting.  Thank goodness I had my solar hand umbrella.  Finally, Chloe decided she wants a pizza Margharita and will go back and join the others while Mark and I buy the food.  About an hour in the blazing sun (this is typical Texas weather) we are about 30 people away from the window, and they announce they've run out of pizza dough.  WTF?  I verify with the man that they have no more pizza dough, and we go back and inform the group.  The other food truck lines just continued to grow.... meaning waiting time was more than likely over an hour just to order your food.  We broke the news to the group.  Then, I took pictures..

They were NOT happy campers.  Neither was I.  I decided to go complain to Angie.  She was speaking with the director of the event, and I didn't say who I was, but just stated that we couldn't find any food, that the pizza truck just announced that he'd run out of food.  I then stated that we were going to leave and go to a restaurant and eat.  I left it at that.

Before I go anywhere, I like to go to the toilet.  Joyce had to go also.  When Sheila had gone earlier, it seemed to take about 20 minutes.  Hey, I had my VIP bathroom pass.  Of Joyce and I go.  You need a VIP pass to enter the area, and Joyce didn't have one, so I just had her walk beside me, since I'm large enough to keep anyone from seeing her.  We made it past the gate keeper.  We got there, and it is a pull type of RV trailer that had steps you go up to enter.  We got inside, and it was beautiful  It looked like a regular, yet small, 2 stall bathroom, with running water in the sink and toilers.  Joyce and I were impressed.  We had no trouble leaving the area.  We all then packed up and headed for the car.

As we started loading, I notice the missing chair was actually in the car, Gary had just overlooked it.  Oh well, at least he was the one that took sitting on the ground.  We decided to go to Casa Millagro for dinner.  We enjoyed a really good Mexican dinner.  Sheila and Joyce did their normal and shared some veggie quesadillas, and Mark got a Mexican cabbage roll dinner, Gary had chiliqias, and Chloe and I got our regular, fajita nachos.  Great dinner.

After that, we went to the Coles and sat in the back yard.  Gary was concerned about the dog needing a walk, so we didn't stay long.  That was the end to an almost perfect day.  This morning, I have to clean house.  I have an afternoon doctor appointment with the dermatologist, and then tomorrow the guys come to install the counter tops.  I also got the new parts for the sink in the mail.  It "appears" they will cover the stains, IF they're not too thick for the faucet to make good contact with the connectors.  FINGERS CROSSED.

Here it is Thursday night.  Yup, I've been busy.  Tueday, the plumber came, and VOILA!  The pieces Delta made for me fixed the problem.  I don't have pictures of them, cause I made the mistake of loading iphone IOS 8, and had to transfer all my pictures off my iphone  to make room for the download of the new software.  Anyway, he finished up the shower faucet, and installed the two sink faucets with the new parts.  Thank goodness they look great.... unless you "knew", you'd never "know".  He finished up by 10am.

Around noon, the granite guys showed up.  Great, they were really hard working.  The only problem, they had to do the stove cutout in the kitchen.  It was too narrow on the sides... and once cut, if they carried it and one of them got it out of line, it would break.  They actually put it in place THEN cut it.  How do you define "dust"?  I spell it "1 inch of granite dust in every room of the house".  The smell was almost as bad as the marble dust, but just almost.  I ordered pizza around 8pm, but had to eat it outside on the back deck.  I just had two slices, maybe 1/6 of the large pizza, so I gave it to them to take home with them, along with several diet cokes.  They left around 9pm.  It was a long day for all of us.  Gary and I just went to bed.  Lucky Stella (the dog) had spent the day at Angie's house, and we decided to let her stay there.  Angie is really good about doing that for us.
check out the dust and sheet rock he's standing in.

The next morning, I got up at about 5:30 am and started cleaning.  They had us remove the top drawer from all of the bottom cabinets so they'd have access to the counter tops.  Well, when they cut the hole in the top for the stove, they also attempted to help by running a vacuum at the same time.  Yes, it blew it in every opening in the lower cabinets.  I guess I should be thankful they didn't also need the upper cabinet doors open.  I had to take every piece of kitchen cutlery, potato peeler, I am, by the way, a kitchen gadget person, all 3 can openers out, you get the idea, then every drawer out, and then vacuum all the dust out.  Then I hand washed all that stuff, hand dried it (I was afraid it would stop up the dishwasher, and was concerned as it was about the plumbing), then cleaned off the kitchen table, and neatly stacked it all there.

I had this brilliant idea to refinish the cabinet drawers on the kitchen island while I was at it.  That is still in progress.  Gary was a bear all day... it was all my fault because I was the one that started the remodel before we bought another house.  Well, whatever.  I worked my poor fingers to the bone.

I had a doctor appointment with the gastro guy, so I cleaned up (in the spare bath... no door on the new shower) and went to that.  I am now off of Humira, and paying for it.  Old issues have returned.  That's a different blog I'll have to write later this year.  I got some new meds, and was driving home when I saw Home Depot.  I stopped in and bought some stuff for the house.  New towel holders, towel rings, etc..  Gary and I have had several disagreements about me replacing all the handles in the bathrooms and kitchen. He just loves them as they are.  Well, whatever... I got rubbed bronze ones for the master bath from Delta so they'll match the faucet, and stainless silver ones for the kitchen that match the appliances.  Nothing matches the granite.  I have never seen anything close to it anywhere.  It is unique.  I'll post pictures in a week or so.  We both worked on the house all day.  Gary did the carpets and floor while I worked on dishes and cabinets.  I cleaned them with "KrudKutter", which is a fantastic product.  Even the Canadians like it.  It removes all oil and crud from your kitchen cabinets and makes them look like new.  I slept well.

Got up today and did some more work on the island drawers that I'd attempted to refinish.  Gary did a Home depot run and got me some more supplies.  While he was gone, I quietly put the new handles on the bottom cabinets.  He came is, looked at them, and then instead of bitching or yelling, he just turned around and walked out.  He never mentioned them again.  Whew..... I was going to keep them anyway, just hate to throw a fit to get it done my way.  I am beginning to think he liked the look.  I think it makes them look like brand new cabinets.  I'll do a before and after picture, if I can find a good "before".

Around 1pm, I loaded up the car, then headed for Glen Rose.  My damned Google Plus app wouldn't work.  I got lost in the "mix master" in downtown Dallas and wasted about 30 minutes driving in circles.  Due to construction, was a traffic jam.  I never could get in the right lane.  I finally got here.  Sheila won't come down until tomorrow morning.  She had to do the FWGA monthly tournament.

Joyce left for home yesterday.  Per Sheila, she made it home safely and pretty much on time.  This was the worst visit I've ever had with her.  Maybe I should say I've ever NOT had with her.  Gosh, we just didn't get enough done.  My life has just been too hectic lately.  I was out of town so much.  But, the short time that I did get to visit with her was great fun.

That's it for now.  I'm in the La Quinta hotel in Glen Rose... what more could I want?  Well, a good nights sleep for one.  Later.
