Today is Aug 12. It has been raining or sprinkling here in the Dallas area for several days. I got up today and took Kiki for a bike ride. She rides in a little wagon I attach to the back. Got back and didn't want to do house work, so I decided to BLOG about what I did last night. Course, nothing is ever easy now a days. Logged in and found that the previous post had never updated. Took care of that, started the new page (this one), worked about 15 minutes and bam..... everything was gone. Sigh.... when will I ever learn to "save" about every paragraph?
Last night, Sheila, Mark, Gary and I went to a place called THE GREAT ESCAP.E. They feature three services.
1. THE ESCAPE ROOM
They lock you in a room and you have to figure out how to get out. There are clues that genius type of people can decipher, which leads to the next clue.... etc. until you ESCAPE. Well, the four of us don't have that much faith in our IQ's to try that.
2. ZOMBIE WATCH ROOM
They put you in a room with a "Zombie" that tries to touch you. I guess if he actually grabs you, you don't really die, you just get embarrassed and have to leave the room. They had a room on the TV in the entry that you could watch. It was OK.... but not really for us.
3. AXE THROWING
They have a room laid out sort of like a bowling alley.... everyone has a caged in area (to prevent death from missed target throws) and people form teams and compete for trophy's. I mean, we are all over 59.... so why not try one that required athletic abilities instead of the ability to hide from Zombies or use your brain.
They use a person from each team and instruct the group (using the one person) how to throw an AXE. Not only do you have to throw it, you use a target on the wall, laid out sorta like a dart board. It has rings with numbers 1 on the outside ring earning one point, up to the 4th ring, which will earn you 4 points. The center is painted red, and hitting it is hitting the bulls eye... you get 6 points. I mean, how difficult could that be? Wait.... it is NOT as easy as one would think. Mark missed his first toss, and then BOOM!!!! He was flinging that damned AXE and racking up the points. We all got warmed up, it took me about 4 tosses to get the hang of it, Sheila maybe 2 tosses, and Gary started immediately hitting the target. We formed teams and the four of us and one more guy were one team.
Everyone got 2 tosses at a turn. The player earning the least number of points for the two tosses earned a letter for their team. It was like playing HORSE. If you spelled the word TIMBER first.... you lost. Well, we pulverized them. The next game, it was more like darts. The first team to 30 points won. You had to get the exact score. Our team was sitting with 27 points, and the other team had maybe 22. It was my turn, and I needed to score a three. Of course, being the great athlete that I am, I scored it on my first toss. That being won, we were declared the winning team of the night.
The final event of the night was finding the MASTER AXER! They took two players at a time, and had a competition. They each got two tosses, and the high scorer moved on, but also got to select "who" they were going to play. Long story short.... I couldn't hit jack crap and was eliminated, so was Gary. Sheila, being Canadian and a great hockey fan, was sitting right at the top with two people between her and the title. (I know most of you may think hockey is nothing like AXE throwing... but I needed to think of some way to whine.) One was the extra guy on our team, the other was Mark. Well duh!!!!! Do you think Mark is dumb? I mean Sheila could really toss that AXE, but come on.... Mark could hit the board but not score. Me thinks he was just letting her win. Anyway...
She whips up on Mark (really, I think Mark "threw" the match), then didn't even get her AXE to stick on the last two plays of the night... Oh well, we had a great time.
Enjoy this video..... I need to see if Sheila got any pictures of me tossing the AXE. Gary kept saying he was taking pictures, but NADA. sigh....
Came home, and I had a Hatch Chile Festival Meal. That means, I attended a Hatch Chile tasting at Central Market with Angie and Morgan, and got about one of everything they had. We had...
All of the following dishes were made with Hatch Chiles.
Queso, guacamole, slider burgers, green and red hot sauces, and even some IPA beer.
For dessert, I made a "Do Nothing Cake" that I saw on the internet. It was "ok", but nothing to write home about. As a matter of fact, I am giving the rest of it away. Note to self.... Mark does not like coconut anything.
That's our excitement here. Gary washed all the dishes from last night while I took Kiki for her bike ride. I guess I have no more excuses, I must do something productive. I may take a spelling lesson. Excuse all errors.
