SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE

Sue, Sheila, Margie and I braved the severe weather conditions to go to the movies last night to watch Slumdog Millionaire. It was a great movie. One of the few where the audience actually clapped while the screen credits were rolling.

It is the story of Jamal Malik, an 18 year-old orphan from the slums of Mumbai, who is about to experience the biggest day of his life. With the whole nation watching, he is just one question away from winning 20 million rupees on India's "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" But when the show breaks for the night, police arrest him on suspicion of cheating; how could a street kid know so much?

Desperate to prove his innocence, Jamal tells the story of his life in the slum where he and his brother grew up, of their adventures together on the road, of vicious encounters with local gangs, and of Latika, the girl he loved and lost. Each chapter of his story reveals the key to the answer to one of the game show's questions.

After the movie, we went to the Greek Isle restaurant (on the north side of the strip shopping mall just north of Burlington Coat Factory). They have daily dinner specials for like $13.95 which includes everything, even dessert (no beverage). The Talapia stuffed with crab meat was fantastic. We also shared a bottle of Greek wine. Great place to eat. Can you believe I didn't take my camera? I was rushing from the lab (more blood tests) to home to get ready. Next time!

The weather was bad again this morning. Dad had a doctor appointment (what a shocker) at 7:50 am in McKinney. Southbound Central was backed up from Renner road to just north of Hwy. 121. That's a long ways. We didn't have trouble northbound, until we got just north of Hwy. 121. Then it came to a halt. We did manage to take side roads, and got there only like 20 minutes late. Coming home was bad again.

The only "scheduled" event upcoming is Sheila's annual Super Bowl party. That should be a blast.
