We ate at a Taqueria, good food, then off we went to Sante Fe, via the scenic route. We were excited about taking the girls to New Madrid. Wow, has it changed. It is now a tourist trap. No hippies. What a depressing place. We did take a few pix to show Gary the changes.
We arrived in Sante Fe, checked in to the Hilton Sante Fe, in Old Town. It was beautiful. We did some sightseeing and photo stops, then ended up eating dinner at the Baja Grill. We were amazed…. Of all the luck, we had never had a bad meal. Went back and the girls swam before turning in. I met a real nice biker in the spa. He explained to me that Canon City is pronounced CANYON City. It’s a Mexican word, and has a squiggle above the n. Live and learn. The pool had a hot tub and swimming area. It also had an outdoor fireplace, where they started a fire with pinon wood. I can recognize that smell anywhere.
We got up Saturday morning and the girls and Angie went to a street music festival, and a sight seeing tour of the governors palace. I went back to the hotel. We took a few pix….. yeah right.
We met up later, and headed for our long drive to Canon City, CO. NOTE – a portable potty is a must, cause the road side rest stops have porta potties. YUCK! It was a long drive, but we finally made it to Canon City. Frank was waiting for us in front of his house. We talked, went out to a local pizza place, did a little sightseeing, then came home and went to bed.
