Facing Life - One More Day

What a busy weekend. Dad has had trouble walking ever since being brought home from the ER. He's fallen several times. Dad fell Sunday night. I tried to explain to him that he needs to always use his walker, or else call for us. Gary got him up and back in his chair. He went to bed early.

Yesterday morning, it started sleeting at about 5 am, and continued until 11 am. Then it spit snow all day. The high yesterday was something like 18 degrees. Needless to say, the entire city was pretty much shut down. So, no doctors appointment.

I did go to Sheila's yesterday to start the pool pump. That's all I'm going to say. She and Mark are in beautiful WARM Roatan (if I remember correctly) until Saturday. They are NOT haviang a superbowl party at their house Sunday, cause their TV's are on the blink. I volunteered to have it here, but may have to cancel that idea. Depends on where we are with Dad by then. My sister Janice is coming in from Houston on Sunday to go to the Superbowl party I "was" scheduled to have.

Dad got up at 2pm, ate and went right back to sleep. He awoke again at 5:30 pm, and was unable to walk, his left right leg won't move at all. Gary and I lifted and helped him all day. Then last night, Gary carried him to the bathroom, and he promised he wouldn't get up. I sat in the room next to his, and continually kept a verbal exchange going. The phone rang, I answered it, and that's when he fell. He had forgotten that he couldn't get up and walk. When he fell, pullled the towel bar out of the bathroom wall. Gary had a hard time getting his up, cause he was wedged between the tub and the toilet. Got him settled in bed, got him a bedside commode, and we thought we were set.

Today, same cold weather. Today though, they're doing rolling blackouts. So far, Angie has had about 5 blackouts.... all lasting only about 20 minutes. We've had none. We're both confused by that. Went to check on Dad around 11 am, and he was coming out of the bathroom, almost crawling. Got him in bed again, and gave him his morning meds. I then gave him his steroid eye drops to put in his eyes, and I took his dirty clothes to the laundry room. Well, he was drinking the eye drops when I came back in the room. So much for him doing his own meds any more. It was sort of funny (in a sick way) when I caught him. I told him they weren't to drink, they were for his eyes. He immediately tried to put them in his nose. When I stopped him, he said he couldn't think where his eyes were.

I am getting ready to have Gary connect the new TV I bought about 4 months ago up in his bedroom. It's smaller that the 36 inch TV he had, but we moved it out because it was too big and dangerous if he fell on it. The new one is only like 23 or so inches, and will replace his PC moniter as well as the TV. It is high def, and we'll put it at the foot of his bed.

Other than that, I'm doing nada today. The girls are out of school again, so maybe they'll come over later. Think I'll start some chicken and dumplings for dinner.... either that or ham and beans for Dad and Gary. (I don't do beans) Also note.... I didn't do spell check or reread this post. I'm just too stressed out to mess with it. Just wanted to keep in touch.

Later, and KEEP WARM.....
