Weekend News Update

I did pick up my car. Damn thing was $2500, and after my deductible and the work I had to pay for, it cost me almost $850. I was not a happy camper. Neither was Gary when he found out I paid $24 for insurance. I knew I was covered, but I didn't want the hassle if there was a nick on it, etc. The air conditioner does work. I have decided that the next big expensive thing that goes wrong will make me consider buying a new car. I'll still want a SUV, but can now get by with a 6 passenger vehicle, since Dad's not with us any more. Oh, and I also want something that will tow a trailer, cause I want a travel trailer. Gary isn't happy about that either. Poor Gary, I just can't seem to do anything that he like if it requires me spending money.
Thursday, I played golf with the FWGA League. Saw Sheila there, but we weren't in the same foursome. I played terrible, but was hindered by Joan, my cart buddy. She was a blast. However, she's 85, and has severe short term memory loss. She'd forget where she was going to hit, and where her pink ball went. Pink is almost impossible to find in green grass. I decided to blow off trying to play a good game, and just make her have a good day. She did play better, and faster once I decided to help her.
Friday was no big deal. I shopped for the things I was taking on Saturday to Sheila's party for Liz and Jamie. I also made aoli from a Rick Bayless recipe. 2 cups olive oil, 4 bulbs garlic, 1 tbls. red pepper flakes, and the juice of 2 limes. It takes about 1 1/2 hours to make. Once it was made, I cooked copper river salmon in it. We had Eric and Morgan over to eat with us. I had to grill Morgan some chicken, cause she'll only eat cat fish. (I know, I don't understand either, but she'll only eat that if she's the one that caught it.) So, we all had our meat, salad, hot rolls and fettuccine Alfredo.
Saturday I grilled some Vadalia Onions to take to Sheila's. Didn't want to overload Mark with last minute items that needed to be grilled, so I did everything except add the lime juice. I put them in a foil pan, and Sheila ended up reheating them in the oven. They weren't as good as freshly grilled, but I think they were "okay". I also took roasted red pepper humus, spicy crab dip, crackers and fritos. My "special" food was Mexican Shrimp Coctails. I used Tiger Shrimp, and purchased them already cooked. (I think that was a mistake, cause I didn't like the texture, and there was no flavor.) I made the sauce, which had the following.... Clamato juice, cumin, lime juice, cilantro, avacados, vadalia onions, green onions, celery, cucumbers, serrano peppers, garlic, and salt & pepper. I loved the sauce, but the shrimp was a let down.
Margie took white queso with chips, and Sue brought artichoke dip. Sheila provided burgers, potato salad, all the fixings, salad, and also her famous DUMP CAKE with ice cream or whipped cream. I forgot, Sue also brought a wheat berry salad. Clay has gone vegan in his old age. He didn't get as much to eat as the rest of us, but Sue made sure he didn't starve. He did eat the shrimp coctails, but omitted the shrimp. Ralph and Margie didn't stay too long, cause Christina had an event they needed to attend.
We drank and talked. We did a few dips in the pool, but basically, just told stories about each other. Of course, Liz and Jamie provided the best Mark stories. It was a fun evening. I believe they're already off to San Antonio. Chloe, Morgan, Gary and I are going to go to their house tomorrow and eat the left overs. Oh yeah, Chloe's going to do cat duty to earn money for her mission trip, which is coming the first of July. For those of you that know me..... yes..... Sheila does know we're going over to eat left overs.
That's all that happened this weekend. The sun is out and it's gonna be a scorcher. I'm going to clean house, wash a couple of loads of laundry, and I'm not sure what else. Here are pictures I took yesterday.
