A Beautiful Texas Day in Dallas Area

Woke up this morning, freezing.  I don't know how cold it got, but it was nippy in my bedroom.  I made some GF brownies last night, and realized this morning that I'd left the oven on.  Whew.... I am getting senile, at least forgetful in my old age.  It was sort of nice though, while making the morning coffee, I just opened the oven door, and it got nice and toasty really quick.  I did tell Gary, and he thought it was funny.

I honestly have been misplacing things right and left.  I searched all day long for a cord I used while burning some music CD's last night, and I never did find the cord I was looking for.  Hopefully, as my memory gets worse, I'll do better.  I'll forget that I was actually looking for an item, and then it won't be some maddening.

I cleaned up my hard drive, and recovered about 35 Gig of memory, just by deleting multiple copies of some CD's.  It's weird.  I don't always use the PC to play the songs.  And I guess I need to see how I can re-configure the options, cause every time I play a CD, it copies it to the hard drive.  Maybe my favorite PC guru, Angie, will fix it for me.  I won't hold my breath, cause she gets tired of helping me do it.

I nagged, I mean convinced, Gary to mow our back yard.  He also hit the neighbors on either side, which will only cause the 5 others to complain.  At least they don't do it to our face, just to each other.  They will pay Gary, I think he gets something like $300 if he mows every one's yard.  He will do it, if he has time, but he definitely doesn't do it for the money.  They don't clean up the fallen branches like they should, and that eats the blades up rather quickly.  It's sort of a break even type of job.  We'll see what he gets done tomorrow.

We actually didn't see the girls today.  Guess they were doing something fun.  I sort of want to go to the new downtown park that was built over an expressway.  There's also an art festival.  Depending on what Gary gets done in the morning, I may see if he'll take me.  If so, I'll ask Angie and them if they want to go also.

Okay, are you ready for this?  Gary has been researching my Ulcerative Inflammatory Colitis (UIC), gluten free eating, and also lactose intolerance.  He has come up with some very convincing information.  He also went to the trouble of printing it out.  He handed it to me and asked me to read it so we could discuss it.  I read it, and it is 180 degrees away from where I'm at.  He found a study that was completed in late 2011 on the effects of NON-gluten binders on UIC.   It stated that most people eat too much gluten.  It's found in wheat and barley naturally, then thru cross winds blowing gluten spores across non-gluten crops like oats, thru cross contamination during processing, on and on, that there is gluten in almost everything processed.  Gluten is the best binder there is known to man.  It not only keeps bread from crumbling apart, but keeps salad dressings, etc. from separating.  Oh, and don't plan on eating any wallpaper paste.  Yup, gluten.

UIC is where where the colon gets inflamed and separates and gets spots that ulcerate.  They put their test group of people into two groups.  One group ate gluten, the other did not.  The non-gluten people got worse.  The people that ate gluten got better.  They found, as a side note, that people that are gluten free eat different binders.... like xanthum gum, guar, and on and on.  Further testing revealed that those binders actually made the UIC worse.  Wow, Gary was so excited.  He desperately wants me to be able to eat gluten.  He's fine with no lactose, but he hates everything that says gluten free.  It's also super expensive.

Well, Gary did present me a really good reason to reconsider the non-gluten diet.  He wanted me to try it when I was in a "good" stage of the disease, which, by the way, is not curable.  You just try and stay in remission.  Since I'm doing better than I have in the last 7 or 8 years, I decided to try it.  Today, I had gluten for dinner.  I made chicken noodle soup.  Gary was ecstatic.  I also made a peach cobbler, but made it GF.  I wanted to ease into it.  I ate about one cup of noodle soup, then had some cobbler.  The cobbler was gummy in texture (all gluten free products have a mealy texture), but tasted normal.  Gary said he was so happy I made regular noodles that he'd try the cobbler.  (He hasn't done it yet, but he'll do it before I go to bed... or else!)  I'll see how I feel tomorrow.

My plan is to basically stay away from the non-gluten binders.  The lactose is a no brainer.... it make me ill right away.  There goes my waffles, cookies, brownies, etc..  Gasp!  I'll also go slow and start adding oats (gluten free..... they're regular, but grown away from any wheat, someplace in Scotland (if I remember correctly) where they've never grown wheat.  Crap, I'm also going to the endocrinologist on Tuesday to find out about my blood sugar.  Then I'm going to get a referral to a dietitian.  I'll let her figure it out.  I may also see about getting a different gastro doctor.  All I know for sure, lactose makes me sick, and I've never felt better, but maybe gluten really isn't as bad for me as we thought.  Gawd, what a life.

I did take Stella for a walk.  The neighbor on the corner has their house all ready for Halloween.
I wanted to share this picture with you.  It looks really spooky when it gets dark.  This was taken just as the sun was setting.  Also, the moon is out..... here's a picture of it.
These aren't the best photos in the world, cause they were taken with my iPhone.  However, the moon was really pretty, the picture doesn't do it justice.  I am hoping that tomorrow will be as nice as it was today.  I have a friend in Calgary that said they have snow.  Brrrr.... she's going to Mexico Nov. 25 for the rest of the winter.  No wonder.....

I am sorry I have nothing exciting to blog about.  However, my PC is nice and clean.  On the inside, at least.  That's it from here in Texas.  I don't know how the Cole's deck cleaning went, because I'm not sure what they could get done yesterday.  It was terribly windy, and rather cold all day.  I'll have to give Sheila a call tomorrow and see how it went.

Remember, if you find you've dug yourself into a deep hole.... quit digging!
