Joke of the day thanks to JR:
Why don't blind people sky dive?
Cause it scares the dog!
We got up Sat. morning to rain on Dauphin Island. We managed to load the car, clean the house, and get to the check out office at 10:15.... only 15 minutes late. We stopped for cinnamon rolls, ice and gas, and we were off. We didn't let the rain slow us down.....until we passed a house on hwy. 188 that takes us to I10. We saw a house with a donkey and I think it was 4 goats all standing on the front porch to get out of the rain. If anyone has any idea how the donkey got in that position, let us know. It doesn't look like the porch is big enough to turn around on, but surely he didn't back up there. Talk about INBREEDING! Not only could the same guy not spell seafood, he couldn't read either, so he tied a rope to. the pole so he'd know where to turn to get home.
We stopped at Slidell, Lousianna and bought way too many souveniers. Angie got something with pop corn, chocolate and pecan pralines that she fell in love with. It's best if I don't get started on it, it was good. Then, we headed for downtown New Orleans. On the way, we stopped and tourned the New Orleans Archdiocese Cemetery (sp?). Then we checked in to the Holiday Inn in the French Quarter for only $160, which I think is a bargain.
The first thing we saw..... our next door neighbor came out of her room with her shorts down around her ankles but still wearing her underwear. The girls were wide eyed. Let's see, then we went to find a restaurant at 4:30, cause we hadn't eaten since 10:30. We're only one block off Bourbon Street, and that's where most of the restaurants are so we started there. Chloe heard a couple of drunks cursing, and decided she wasn't going to walk on that street. Angie and I decided she was right. My gawd... it was ohnly 4:30.... who knew?
We ended up eating at the Checkered Parrot. Angie got a bowl of red beans and rice for $9, I got a burger for $9, the girls got fried cheese sticks for $7, and we ordered 3 sodas and Iced tea. Our bill was $31.. which I thought was a bargain. Angie said it was the best Red Beans and Rice she's ever had. My burger was good, but not as good as Whataburger. Yup, I a true Texan.
After dinner, we came back and I took the girls swimming while Angie ran to the drug store. It's the first time I've swam in a pool that was almost as warm as a hot tub. The girls are tired, and anxious to start again in the morning. Our "plan" is to go to McDonalds for the girls breakfast, then to Cafe Du Monde for breakfast for Angie and me, then to the French Market, then to the trolley, then to the ferry. We'll see how it actually goes tomorrow.
That's it for today...... the girls are drinking cokes, and I'm gonna share a bottle of wine with Angie.
We Be Havin Fun Now!
