Getting ready to leave for Vegas

I'm down to d-day minus one. Tomorrow morning at this time, I'll be sleeping on a plane headed to San Antonio, then on to Vegas. I do NOT change planes. It's a Texas State law, that any plane flying out of Love Field cannot fly directly to any other airport whose borders do not touch that of Texas. Eg.... Vegas doesn't share a border with Texas, but Okla and Louisiana do, so they allow direct flights from Love field to Okla and Louisiana. Hence, we land in San Antonio, pick up a couple of passengers, THEN fly to Vegas. All politics when they built a new DFW airport to force people to go there.

Friday, I took my golf lesson with Kevin. It went great. I wasn't turning my left hip fast enough one time, far enough another, then I quit shifting my weight. When I do everything correctly, it is a perfect ball flight. For all you golfers.... remember this.... left influence is lower body rotation..... right influence is fast arms and chicken wings. Golfers will know what I'm talking about whether they do them or not. Gary T. had the rotation problem but Kevin previously corrected it.... now he doesn't follow thru enough with him swing, and his nose gets too close to the target. Well, that's my interpretation of it. My practice swing is set-up, bring the club to the top, touch right knee Add Imageto left, fully rotate my hips, then drop the arms. Once I get that going, then I practice attempting to not bring the club more than 3 feet above ground on my follow thru for 3 swings, then one regular swing, then repeat. Gary is supposed to practice a couple of swings with feet together, then regular swing while attempting to hit his back with the club on follow thru. Believe it or not, our swings are beautiful (so is ball flight) when we hit it the way our practice is supposed to make us do every time. CONSISTENCY is the name of the game.

Ok, once I took the lesson, I came home and Kevin had e-mailed me a copy of my lesson. I liked the video, then saw that he uses V1 Golf technology (cameras, etc) and they have an app for your iPhone. Naturally, I bought it. They also have a mounting bracket for your golf cart so you can mount your iPhone onto the cart. I bought that also. Now, when I get back from Vegas, I can mount my camera, record my swing, then have V1 Golf technology (like Kevin has) compare it to a real pro swing, then analyze it. Cool idea, if I can figure out how to use it.

Saturday, I was unable to stomach messing with Dad's hand. It looks even worse than it did when it happened. I took him back to the ER and asked for a wound check. It's not the same as an ER visit. The doctor on duty saw Dad's hand and said it's a good thing I brought him in because a hematoma had developed and needed to be removed or it wouldn't heal. I informed him it was like that when I brought him in. He didn't think I knew what I was talking about, so I showed him a picture. He turned pale. Me thinks it should have been removed by the first doctor. Anyway, he pulled the skin back without informing me he was going to, and when the blood gushed out I almost fainted. I told him to come get me in the waiting room when he finished messing with it and we'd talk. He worked on Dad's hand for a good 30 minutes getting the hematoma out and getting the bleeding stopped.

He put Dad on an antibacterial anti-biotic, and referred me to a hand surgeon. Angela has agreed to take him to the surgeon as soon as he can get in. If Dad needs surgery, then he'll go ahead and have it while I'm gone. The ER doctor didn't think he would be scheduled for a visit and any surgery this week, but it doesn't matter. Angela is the daughter that all mom's want. Well, that is AFTER she got thru high school. Angie will take great care of him, and even Gary has offered to take him to our primary care doctor IF he needs to go. Thank you Gary.

Morgan came over Saturday afternoon, so she could spend the night. Chloe and Angie went on a road trip with Melissa (my step-daughter) to Arkansas and didn't get in til early am Sunday morning. Gary bought Morgan a new bike. It's got hand brakes, and poles on each axle so Morgan can do tricks. Her first trick was to have Gary drive the bike, and she stood on the poles. Yes....she does wear a helmet.

Got up Sunday morning, and Morgan was asleep on the couch, but hey, it was only 6am. I made coffee, went for the paper, then found the flowers, chocolates and card Gary bought me. I wanted a 12 foot screened gazebo, but Gary wanted to take me to look at one. THEN, he convinced me I need an outdoor kitchen more. Hey..... the kitchen is expensive, and the gazebo isn't ($600 at Sam's) so I'm going for the kitchen. He wants me to get a gas grill and burner set up so I can cook outside. Hey..... he's the guy that leaves every light on in the house, then always has the heater or air conditioner running... never an open window. And he decides I waste too much electricity cooking in the house when the air conditioner is running. Whatever...

Angie came by and got Morgan and they all went to church, Dad and Gary went to Ihop, and I stayed home alone and read the paper. It was great. Then, after church, we all went to Casa Milagro for Mom's day lunch. THANK YOU GARY! I had a couple of Michilada Coronas, so I couldn't eat most of my meal. I ordered Dad brisket stuffed cabbage rolls, and evidently they were delicious cause he scarfed them down. He couldn't use his right hand, so I cut up his food, but other than that, he went right after it left handed.

Came home and opened presents. Then girls gave me hand made cards. Eric, my favorite son-in-law, got me a new Adams Sand Wedge. Angie, my favorite daughter, got me chocolates (dark kisses) and a new Wii game..... Dance It Up, or something like that. We had a ball. You dance to a nunchuck and follow the dancer on the screen. Of course, like all Wii games, you score points. Angie beat me, but I did better when I was directly in front of the TV. It wore me out! I now have the theme for the next party. We had cheese cake, then they all left, with Morgan pouting cause she didn't want to go home. Chloe isn't that way so much any more, but Morgan has taken her place. She wants to be with Papa.... cause he's so much fun. Yeah right! If someone never told me no and bought me anything I desired, I'd want to be with them 24 hours a day.

Got up and 5:30 this morning so I could have a quiet cup of coffee, and print my boarding pass. I hit send exactly at 6:00 am, and I was the 24th person to get a boarding pass. I didn't pay $10 extra, so I had to wait until 24 hours before my flight. But, at least I'm in the first group to board. After I go to work at the golf course at 9:00 this morning, I meet with Jim and Tyler about the tournament this week, then I come home and pack. I go back to work again at 4pm, then come home and re-pack, then go to bed early. I have to be at the airport at 5am, so I'll pack and pre-load my car tonight, and just drive in my sleep stupor.

That's it for now. Unless something news worthy happens today, my next post will probably be from Las Vegas at the Wyndom Desert Resort. It will be great.

Later, and here's a bumper sticker.....
