I ended up staying and listening to the entire spiel. Then, went over with another girl, Karen, who graduated from the same Craps class, and we played. We did pretty well, and we both decided we were going to lose money if we stayed (table got cold), but we wanted to practice. We continued to play, and ended up both $75 down, but felt we were now ready for the real world.
I called Sheila, got directions to the resort, and started what she called "just a couple of blocks" walk back. Well, let me tell you this, it was a 15 mile trek. Well, maybe not quite that far, but it was a lot further than a couple of blocks. I'd guess over a mile, maybe 50. Got here and Sheila was reading and drinking by the pool. I joined her. Nothing for me like 3 nice cold beers on an empty stomach. Mel came down and joined us. We did the sun thing, then the hot tub thing. Then before we knew it, it was time to go to dinner.
You might find this hard to believe, but we actually talked to other guests the entire afternoon. We had a great time. Two were from NY City, and one was a Home Depot manager and the other was an avid Cowboys fan. The other was a nice man from So. Carolina who came to the smaller tower (where we are) because he thought it was more suited to the not-so-young crown. He's right about that.
We had 6:30pm reservations for Hugo's Celler, which is in the basement of the 4 Queens. Off we go. This pix is for my husband Gary. Here are two pix of the PAWN STAR pawn shop that is the one he sees on TV. The front of the store has the words "as seen on TV as the PAWN STAR". I asked the cab driver to point it out to us when we drove by it. Sheila was in the front seat, so when we got there, I passed her the camera. All of it happened during heavy traffic, so we didn't get all the good shots we wanted. It's the thought that counts.
We arrive on Fremont Street, and it was packed. You can't tell it from this pix, but SW Airlines was having a 70's party for their employees. I didn't get pictures of some of the outfits, but there were more hippy, pimp, and tye-died costumes than un-costumed outfits. We checked out the tatoos, and decided it wasn't for us.
We arrived at the restaurant and enjoyed our dinner. The smallest portion of steak they had was a 10 oz sirloin. I went ahead and ordered the 16 oz prime rib. Nothing like trying to eat a one pound steak. Mell had the same problem with her 1 pound filet. Sheila couldn't stand the thought of looking at that much beef, so she went with the scallops. Our plates arrived, and she probably had over a pound of scallops. We gals focused on the meat. I ate maybe half of my prime rib, and Mel didn't eat quite that much of hers. Sheila did fairly well on her scallops, but none of us ate our potato or asparagus sides. Between the salads, rasberry sorbet, and bread, we were almost full before we started. The waiter (we had 3 assigned to our table, and then there was the wine steward) took our picture. I didn't have the nerve to tell him it would take 4 or 5 pix to get me with my eyes open. Same with Mel.
We finished off with our chocolate covered fruit plates, then paid our $185 tab. That wasn't bad for 2 glasses of wine, 1 glass of tea, and 3 entrees. Wait.... maybe it is, but I forgot.... Sheila had a latte and I had coffee afterwards. Off we went to gamble.
We played the $5 craps table. Sheila ran out of her "allocated" limit money, and left the table. Mel had to add a couple of hundred cause she also ran out, but me and my little $100 lasted quite a while. I had already lost $75 earlier practicing my craps, so I decided I was only going to lose $100. Mel and I both were not "hot" rollers, but there were four women on one end of the table, and we all rolled "almost" hot. We'd hit 3 or 4 numbers then crap out. I did find that if I stayed with minimum bets and covered the 6 & 8, left the "come" line alone, and played just $5 chips on my pass odds, that I'd win small all the time. Anyway, I'm sure it's going to be like last year..... one hot night and then it's all over.
We had started playing around 7:30, and around 12:00 am we called it quits. I had won $444 without ever adding to my stash. Mel cashed in about $250 in chips, so she was just a few bucks ahead. We got Sheila (she was playing video poker and drinking free beers) and she had held her own on the video poker. We came home and talked for a few, then we were off to bed.
Again this morning, I slept late. Hopefully I'll get my hours straight. Usually I'm up at the crack of dawn, but haven't been able to recoup I guess, from the long day Tuesday. I honestly have decided I don't like sleeping in late. You miss too much of the day. All the time I've been blogging, I've been attempting to upload this picture. The picture is landscape, and it shouldn't be. When I get home, I'll edit it and correct that and reblog.
Other than that, as soon as we lounge by the pool for a few hours, we're off to see a show tonight at Harrah's. Hopefully, we'll do well there on the craps table. They don't have $5 slots at night, maybe none during the day, I don't know. But I do know that Bill's does have $5 tables all day, 24 hours a day. I am not going to blow a lot of money on that. If I can't play half way decent, then I'd rather lose my money on "Gold Fish" or "Wheel Of Fortune" slot machines. Later, and I'll keep you all update on our Vegas Venture.
update - I didn't post the video. It's been loading for over and hour and still not done. I'll just do it at home. I'm off to the pool to drink beer with Sheila.
