I Can't Breathe.........snort snort

It's that time of year in the Dallas area.  The weather just doesn't know what to do.  It's warmish one day, then freezing cold the next.  My poor sinus' are killing me.  I also have cabin fever.  I don't want to clean house, do anything.... just stir crazy.  I guess I need a vacation.  Spring Break?

I have managed to walk Stella every day for the last four days.  If I have gotten nothing else done, I have accomplished that.  Lord knows, I need the exercise.  Chloe and Morgan came over here after school on Friday.  Chloe wanted to play tennis, and Morgan "said" she did... but that didn't last.  Of course, it wasn't me that took them, it was Gary.

It was, of course, really cold and a little windy.  I did manage to get my lazy butt in gear and cook dinner.  The food at Brios (Thursday's b-day party dinner spot) inspired me.  I remembered years ago that I loved the pasta at Monica's (the "he" who became a "she" and is now a local Dallas celebrity) Aca y Alla restaurant.  It was a jalapeno Alfredo sauce.  Off I go on an experiment.  I marinated some shrimp in a tequila-lime marinade.  Then I made a pasta sauce with a roux, ricotta cheese, and some sauteed diced jalapenos, and of course, garlic and cilantro.  I made the noodles and plain cream sauce for Morgan, and Chloe, just in case.  Of course, Morgan wouldn't even try it.  She had buttered noodles only.  I grilled the shrimp, and served it atop the noodles and sauce, not mixing it in.  Chloe wouldn't even try a shrimp, neither would Morgan.  Gary, however, thought it was really delicious.  Of course, as long as there is a salad and hot rolls, he'll be happy.  I honestly thing it was a fantastic dish, and will make it again, inviting Eric (my son-in-law) next time.  Angela will not cook anything that is from water.... fresh or sea water.  The only time he gets it is when I cook it or they eat out.

Both girls spent the night, and got up and went to a carnival at Morgan's school while I walked the dog.  Morgan was ecstatic.  Angela works for Murad auctions, and it was a PTA fund raiser.  Angie ran the auction.  She also managed to secure highest bid for the most bid on item...... "Principal for a day".  Morgan seems to think she's going to change all rules for one day, and declare recess all day.  Ah, the imagination of a 10 year old.  After that, Chloe went home to do her chores, cause she was having a friend spend the night.  Morgan again spent Saturday night with us.

Morgan has declared the guest bedroom "her" room.  She realized last night that the TV had been removed from "her" room.  Gary confiscated it and is using it as a PC monitor for his new PC.  She tried to get him to put it back in "her" room, and he refused.  She locked herself in his PC room, and refused to let him in.  She had one valid point, he now has 2 PC's in his room, and only uses the old one.  That is the truth, cause the new one has windows 8 running on it, and Gary hasn't used it enough to figure out how to do anything with it.  Yeah, a $1500 computer that is only used for storing pictures of the two grand daughters on it.  I sort of see her point.  I won't go into great detail, cause Morgan has a really warped sense of humor, but at one time she did make a statement that she was farting on his PC chair.  It was driving Gary crazy.  He finally agreed to move it back to her room if she'd unlock the door.  I think he will just do it while she's actually here, then move it back.  I made Gary and I baked fish fillets with strawberry-kiwi salsa, and Morgan chicken nuggets.  Of course there was salad, hot rolls and fresh corn on the cob.  Every one was happy.

By the way, most of you know that I'm jealous of Mark & Sheila.  They got an apron from the butcher at Tom Thumb because they are such good customers.  It has an insulated pocket for cold beer, and even a built in bottle opener.  Damn, I wanted one,.  Well, the other day I went to Tom Thumb and spent a little over $150.  Had problems with no one bagging my groceries, so I asked them to have the manager come help, which he did.  He however, did nothing when I had to leave my produce there.  The scales didn't work and they couldn't weigh the items.  The cashier apologized, but never offered to change registers.  The very next day, I wanted tomato basil soup, so I go back and get the stuff (about $30 total spent) but they had no fresh basil.  I asked the manager what the problem was, and he informed me that I only shop for 2-6 people, and he shops for 20,000 people.  He can't keep everything in stock that people want.  I told him to make it 19,900 some odd people because I could always go to Kroger.  Oh well.

Yesterday, I went to Kroger to get the stuff for the fish dinner.  I came home, and Gary informed me that there were groceries he must have for breakfast.  So, I go back.  As I was checking out, the girl asked me what type of apples I was buying.  I had no idea, nor did I know the price.  She thought they were honey-crisp, and four apples rang up a little over $8.00.  I was amazed, so was she.  She said, you really don't know what type they are, she asked.  Nope, if I'd know they were over $2 a pound, I would probably have gotten a different type, I said.  She said, I'll tell you what, I'll ring them up as Granny Smith, and next time you just make sure you know the type, or that they have a sticker.  I offered to go check what kind they were, and she said no, just do it next time.  Well, she had to adjust the sale because she voided the first apple purchase.  The register didn't like it, and got hung up.  Off we go to a different register.  Everything went fine, but then she announced that she was deducting $5 from my total sale because of the inconvenience of moving registers.  Well, I think I may now shop at Kroger all the time.  Talk about great customer service, and all because I was  a stupid consumer that didn't know what type of apples or the price.

I don't know when Gary and Morgan hit the sack, but I went to bed around 11pm cause I was pooped.
Gary always cooks breakfast for anyone that wants to eat it.  He and Morgan ate, then went to play tennis again.  I think she only wanted to play so she could make Chloe jealous that she went alone with Papa to play tennis.  Those two love to out do each other.  I took Stella for a walk in the nature preserve.

This picture shows the old Routh cemetery, though you'd have to know it to recognize it.

 Here is my sweetie.

I always take my iPhone with me on my walks.  Just in case I fall, or something like that, but I do like to snap a picture or two.

Gary just got in from tennis.  He said Morgan actually tried hard, but has never played before, so it will take her a while to get into it.  Guess I'll quit blogging for now, as Angie is supposed to come over so we can plan our spring break trip.  Later, and here's a golf rule....this is one of MY golf rules.

NEVER, EVER buy two golf coupons in February that expire in February.

I bought two, and they expire next week, and it's either supposed to be raining or super cold all week.!

Now for a regular golf rule...

LAW 4:
Golf balls never bounce off of trees back into play. If one does, the tree
is breaking a law of the universe and should be cut down.
