As I posted in my last blog, I was supposed to play in the FGA golf tournament at the Bridges, Firewheel, on Saturday. Well, I did show up, but I didn't play golf. It was more of an exercise in frustration. I did hit the ball fairly well, but I could NOT score. Basically, I couldn't putt. I had way too many 3 putts. I didn't win squat. But, at least I didn't come last place.
Gary and Will
I did ride with Gary T. and a man named Will. All I can say is.... I beat both of them... net and gross. Unless a net birdie would win anything, I never came close to a skin. I did get closest to the pin on a par three, but unfortunately, it was the hole we started out on. Gary didn't get to the green, Will did, but was just barely on, and I was about 7 feet away. I didn't make the birdie putt, but I did get a par. Ah.... so much for winning anything other than points for showing up. Good news..... none of the three of us came in last place, even though Gary T. had a 12 on one hole. Yes, that was not a type..... but, it's not like it was on a par 3 hole. It was hole number 6 of the Masters, a par 4. I made a 4 or 5 on it.... I think a 4. Yup, it was a long day, but I had fun. Oh, it was also colder than crap to start out with. Thank goodness Gary T brought his cart cover and heater. I didn't stay for the festivities afterwards.... I was pooped.
I think one of the reasons I scored so poorly was because I am just flat out of shape. Between Christmas and all the parties in January, I haven't gotten a lot of exercise. Yesterday was work! I need to practice golf more, and exercise (either golf, biking or walking) every day. That alone should improve my game.
Chloe was here yesterday when I got in from the tournament. She and Gary had been playing tennis earlier in the day. They also played chess at some point. She stayed or dinner. She and Gary cooked. He made his special dinner..... roasted chicken from Sam's, along with green beans, corn, and hot rolls, and Chloe made a salad. After dinner, Chloe went to her house and did her chores, then came back to spend the night. It's so much fun when the g-daughters spend the night... one at a time. They are, after all, sisters, so they argue a lot. Drives me crazy. Gary can just tune them out, but it just gets to me.
Anyway, Chloe spent the night, and then got up and went home early so she could go to church. She works in the nursery. Morgan called and wanted to come over and make us breakfast. Morgan didn't go to church, but she did cook. She wanted me to post a picture of it on facebook, so she could read the comments. She made scrambled eggs, bacon, and pancakes (biscuit mix style). She made Gary and me some plain ones, and her pancakes were chocolate chip "smiley face". Here is her facebook picture.
Please note.... that girl is one smart cookie. She knew to add the strawberries, cause it would have to "look" good since the people on facebook can't "taste" her food. I added the fresh parsley for hair on the pancake smiley face. I ate mine, and it really was good. she actually measures the amount of milk, salt and butter she adds to her scrambled eggs. She has the recipe memorized. She just used the recipe on the Pioneer Biscut Baking Mix. She really can follow a recipe.
The best part was, she got some "likes" right away. She is still wanting to become a famous chef. She told me when she gets famous, I can tell people "I knew her when she was a little chef." I had to explain that when she became famous, it would mean more for me to say "She is my grand daughter." than anything else. She doesn't "get" that, but maybe when she's famous she'll remember I said it.
After breakfast, we went out for a short bike ride. She made me practice using hand turn signals. She's really good at the rules, except she uses her right hand, and doesn't allow for it being a different arm position. Thus, when her hand is straight out, it points to her right, but she means she's turning left. I never did get her to understand. I finally said it was against the law to use anything other than your left hand. Period!
She did help me clean up all the dishes. That girl is not lazy. Other than that, I've done nothing. It is now 1pm, and I think I'll go for a walk.
I'll close by posting a Golf Law....
LAW 1:
No matter how bad your last shot was, you should have Inner Peace knowing
that a shittier one is yet to come. This law does not expire on the 18th
hole, since it has the supernatural tendency to extend over the course of a
tournament, a summer and, eventually, a lifetime.
