We "planned" on leaving for Oklahoma first thing EARLY a week ago Saturday morning. We actually got started at 3:30 pm. It was a beautiful drive, well while it was daylight.
The horse and buggy are just outside of Calista or something...it is NOT on the map.
The pix below is at Holdenville Lake.
When it starts to get late, the girls get weird....especially Morgan. (That is a neck pillow on her head.)
We got into Stillwater late Saturday evening, so we called Frank when we hit the city limits, and he met us at Rudolfo's Mexican Restaurant on the east side of town. We got to his house around 10pm, so we had a pretty early bed time. Early Sunday morning, I slept in while Angie made a Mickey D's run. My nephew brought over his daughter Megan, and I got to meet his fiance, Lori. She is so sweet, and also very cute. She and Megan seem to get along well.
Picture Angie took on her McDonald's Run
After Dennis and Lori left (they live in Tulsa), the rest of us went to the cemetery. It is named after my great grandmother Lawson. Her burial plot is sits with the next two generations, my grandparent's The Sneeds, and my Mother. The cemetery is used by both Quay and Yale, hence the 3 names on the entry. This is also where most all of my father's deceased family is buried. We visited their graves also, but this was the first time I'd seen Mom's gravestone. It is made almost exactly like her grandmother's. They get the pictures placed on a ceramic insert from someplace in Canada.
The girls passed the time with their Nintendo DS Lites. Isn't technology great! The girls are actually texting eachother.
We went to bed early. We wanted to get started our road trip early Monday morning. Angela made some biscuits, bacon, eggs and gawd-awful gravy. It was delicious except for the gravy. I was soooo embarassed. She said it was my fault, cause I'd never taught her how.
The first new experience for the girls was a very large grass fire. They're pretty dry there. There are burn bans in effect.
We went back roads to Guthrie, where we did a tour of the town (if you ever want to shop there.... almost EVERYTHING is closed on Monday's.) This is a pix of the Latter Day Saint's Temple. One of the nicest structures in Guthrie.
It was quite a well preserved town. It is known for having the most preserved orinigal structures.
Chloe saw a Ghost Hunters episode that featured a Guthrie B&B. It is now called the Stone Lion Bed and Breakfast. It is usually only open on Weekends as a B&B, and they hold Saturday night murder mysteries there. When we pulled up the owner happen to be there, waiting for the police to investigate some vandalism. Chloe told her all she knew about the place, and she so impressed the owner with her lore knowledge, that she opened up the entire house for us to tour. The girls even went into the basement. They were scared, and having the time of their life.
Chloe & Megan took pictures, and there were some pretty good pix. Chloe even got this pix of an orb. (Only the unknowing refer to it as photo flash glare, and spots of dirt on the lens that reflect photo flash glare!) They believe that the caught a picture of the ghost that haunts the inn. It is the ghost of a 7 year old that caught whooping cough and was over-medicated by her doctor, thus dying. She now haunts the house, and it has been featured on several ghost documentaries on TV, including the SCI FI channel.
We again hit the Round Red Barn and the Popsstop in Arcadia, then we headed home early enough for the girls to play in the yard. It was a beautiful day. We didn't want to stay gone too late, cause Tuesday is our golf day. The girls played in the yard some, then went inside and played Wii when it got dark.
Tuesday, I got up and gave Angie a gravy lesson. Mine came out better than normal, guess I was showing off. Anyway, she got frustrated because it is one of the few things I have never measured... just add the bacon grease (my secret ingredient), flour, make a light roux, add milk and tada!
We had a tee time Tuesday for 11:28. We booked it as a five-some, and specified children, and they selected the tee time for us. The man came out to check on us once, and told us they had special tees for the kids, marked on the cart path, and he thought the girls would have more fun than if we played as a scramble. Since everyone was backing up behind us, I explained that we were playing as fast as we could, but we couldn't keep letting people go thur, or we'd never finish. He actually told us to take our time, not to let them thru, that we'd paid for our time, just like they had, but we had a tee time. Everyone else were walk-ups. I spoke to the 2 men right behind us and explained about not letting them play thru, cause we ended up waiting on the group in front of us anyway. They said fine. They were soooo nice. They ended up grouping the next 2 groups behind them into one big fivesome, just like us. Only problem, they couldn't keep up with us. Megan actually had a chip-in birdie. Chloe, Frank, Morgan and I were all jealous. Oh, Tuesday was St. Pat's day, hence the tams.
Megan, the rest of team B, and Angie.
Get this..... 3 hours and 45 minutes later, we were finished with the 18th hole.
After getting some snacks, we went to visit my Mom's family. All of them came over, but some of them left before we started taking pictures. Uncle Dewey is in the back row with a cowboy hat, his wife Peaches is on his left. He is 83, and still works every day. These days, he's building himself a new home, cause there homestead of the last 40 years burned to the ground. David is in his early 70's, the gray shirt with the white tee showing, and my Aunt Evelyn just turned 83.... she's next to him, back row 2nd from the right. William and Pat had already left.

Wednesday and Thursday were do nothing days. Friday, Gary T., Sharon P., and Tracy P., and I played in Hacemos' golf tournament on a complimentary basis. I had closest to the pin sewn up on one of the par 3's until Carlos S., beat me out of the prize. All he got was a trophy!

Gary T (the team boy - toy so he claimed to anyone who would listen.....) and me...
Carlos, Sharon and Gary
I must admit, Gary was our best putter.... he saved our bacon a lot more times than Sharon did.
I was the long tee shot person ....

I did win best of hat/hair.... just kidding. Carlos got the closest to the pin, but none of us came anywhere close to winning any golf titles. HOWEVER.... I was one of the biggest winners of the day. I conned Gary T into giving me his door prize coupon, and I gave him my lunch ticket (yeah.... I am that good, cause if you know Gary... food is NOT one of his life's passions!) I won some Mavericks tickets with his door coupon, and I won Plano Theatre tickets with my coupon. TADA! Not only that, I bought 8 raffle tickets, and I won the only raffle prize with the first ticket I bought. It was an AT&T golf bag. I had a great time, if I remember correctly.
Got up early Saturday morning, and played in a golf tournament with Margie, Sheila, Gary, and a throng of others. I didn't take any pictures, cause Gary and Sheila were in different groups. Margie, Sheila and I were in the same flight, so we competed against each other. Margie came in first place with a NET 66, Sheila (it was her first time playing in the FGA) came in second with a Net 71, and I was not dead last, but only 3 or 4 spots out. Margie won $100 and Sheila won $80. I won a beer from Matt D., a new player who is a professional Pro Baseball Scout. Margie and I really liked him, too bad he's about 30 years younger than either of us, and neither one of us would be successful as a cougar! Oh well. We had a few brewskies together after the tournament.
I came home and found Eric and the 2 kids in the backyard. They decided to camp out for the night. The back door was open, kids and dogs running out, and Gary having a field day.

It was a rather quiet night. The girls woke Gary up at the back door at 7 this morning, asking for food. He gave them fruit and toast until Angie arrived with their breakfast. She made some good gravy and biscuits. They left a little later, and I read the paper and drank coffee. I finally got all of Dad's tax info ready for Gary, and decided I needed to get caught up. Stella is at my feet as I type. She really missed me terribly. Dad did also, but I think Gary was the happiest that I finally got home and am not playing golf...... well not til Tuesday.
Later,
