Hurricane IKE Update, Sat. Sept 13 - 11:15 a.m.

Thank God, Dad's house was spared.

We've been getting calls all night and all morning from my sister Janice who went to her son's Gabe who lives in the Friendswood area, and her daughter Danielle who lives about 1 1/2 mile from Dad, on the north side of NASA Space Center. Janice and Danielle are only about a block apart. Danielle stayed at her house instead of evacuating. None of them has electricity, and cell phone service is spotty. Danielle only lost shingles on her roof. Janice and Mike had their house intact, and neither one of them had high water. What is weird is that Danielle couldn't get to Dad's house due to high water, but Janice came back roads and got thru. Janice and Mike are now the proud owners of a 30 foot (approximately) Sycamore tree that is residing in what was once an above ground pool with decking all the way around it. We were all very lucky. Now we can all relax for a while. I'm not even going to worry about what will happen here.... at least not for a while. It appears most of the bad stuff will miss us. Our house is pretty sturdy, and the only issue we'll probably have is our huge trees in the back falling. Maybe the armadillos will drown. I'll update after the storms have passed us.

Later...... The Grinning Mimi Connie clan.
