Sunday Sept. 7

Woke up early this morning to the ringing of my cell phone. What a way to start the day. I spent the previous two days setting up the tournament for Wednesday, and Charles G. was calling to tell me the calendar shows it's really Tuesday. Talk about scrambling. Got 2/3 of that done, and the phone rang again, it was Carlos S. wanting to know where the Bridges course was, he was almost there. I gave him directions, then panicked cause I didn't pay attention to the time.
The picture above was in the Branding Iron (19th hole) Restaurant. Left to right.... Carlos S., Sheila C., me, Mark C..

Got in the car, drove like hell to get there, unloaded, saw a couple of PA's I needed to talk to about the tournament, and decided to put on my golf shoes. DUH! No shoes in the car. Carlos pointed out that I had plenty of time to go home.... I had an hour before our tee time. CRAP! It was only then that I looked at the time. Soooooo, went home and got my shoes, blah blah.

Sheila and Mark arrived, bright eyed and bushy tailed. We decided we'd play a 6-6-6 two man best ball game. We'd change partners every 6 holes, then we could add up the individual scores and not have to worry about giving strokes. All I can say is..... all three are in cahoots to cheat me. Carlos was the big winner with 77, then Sheila, then Mark, and then me.... in last place. I think they deliberately played bad when they were my partner. Carlos won $8, and Sheila $4. After that, we had a couple of brewskies, chips and hot sauce and talked about our game (I know, I know.... I couldn't contribute cause I didn't have much of a game going on).

The video is of Carlos' golf swing. On this particular hole (a par 3), he was pin high, but only on the edge of the green. He and Sheila both made par on that hole, and Mark and I took a bogie. Carlos really loved the course. We played the Champions and Traditions. The Champs is wide open, sorta links style. That's in sharp contrast to the Traditions, which has tighter fairways and tons of trees. Number nine Traditions impressed him. He got a bogie on it. It's only 494 from the white tees (we all played the white tees), but the way the water is laid out, if you get a good driver shot, you're in the water, so you have to lay up on your first shot. Then.... it's about 225 over the water. Oh well, he did have fun. We all did, but Carlos did get a free round of golf (you're welcome).

We're all excited about the State AT&T Tournament. I should have a lot of good golf stories to post after that. Last year at the tournament (it was held at Glen Rose), I made my first and only hole in one. The rest of my day was spent working on the tournament. I finally got enough people in place to cover it. That's it for today.... a nice day in spite of my poor golf.
